Arturo Lopez was born in San Salvador, El Salvador, and has worked with youth both in Central America and the United States. After arriving to the U.S. in 1983, Arturo became a long-time community organizer within immigrant and refugee communities from Central America and Mexico, at Our Lady Queen of Angels in La Placita, Blessed Sacrament Church in Hollywood, and Dolores Mission in East Los Angeles with an emphasis on supporting families with gang-involved children. He has led Christian-based communities in addressing social challenges using the meditation method of St. Ignatius. Arturo currently serves as co-chaplain at Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall in Sylmar, facilitates JRJI's parent support groups, and provides Ignatian retreats to inmates in state prisons throughout California.
